Emergency Management Services

At its very basic, emergency management is designed to protect life and safety, mitigate adverse incidents, and minimize damage to an organization’s property and assets. In today’s operating environment, an overall emergency preparedness program and capability are not an option. They are an imperative, at the heart of compliance, and good corporate governance.

Building an emergency response capability within the organization helps a company prepare for, respond to, and recover from adverse incidents. Organizations need to ensure their readiness to respond in a coordinated, timely, and effective manner to natural, technological, or man-made disasters.

A well written emergency response plan and a proper training program help to maintain the needed capability and to ensure that those charged with responding will know what their responsibilities are and what they are expected to do during an emergency situation.

In Marsh Risk Consulting’s (MRC) experience, companies that successfully anticipate and manage risks are better positioned in the marketplace, build stronger reputational equity, and are better able to steer their companies toward more efficient operations and increased value over the long term.

MRC’s Emergency Management consulting team works with your team to ensure the resulting emergency response plans are customized to meet your risks and response needs. Our process leaves your personnel unburdened with the often time-consuming task of plan development, helps ensure easy adoption when complete, and provides plan formats that are easy to use during implementation.

Our engagements range from assessments to planning, training, and exercising, as highlighted below. During the assessment stages, potential gaps between internal and external response capabilities are identified and solutions are proposed. Our planning approach provides a framework allowing all participants to interact effectively throughout the planning process.

The plans are produced with consideration of regulatory requirements. We use an “All-Hazards” approach in the development of the plans and adopt the Incident Command System (ICS) when possible and appropriate. Wherever necessary, we identify emergency evacuation assembly areas, areas to shelter, critical utility shut-off points, high hazard areas, etc.

Emergency flip-chart guides can also be developed to assist in the communication of the emergency response plans down to the employee/staff level. We also develop “tool kits” and model emergency response plans that can be easily revised so they are site-specific at multiple locations, while bringing planning consistency across an entire organization.

Plans are available in hard copy and electronically so that updates can be easily made, and document control is enhanced. Training needs are identified and training programs are designed to achieve capability maintenance and proficiency in response actions. A full range of exercises, from tabletop to full scale, can be provided and used to gauge an organization’s response readiness.

MRC Can Make the Difference

The frequency of real events occurring, both natural and man-made, continues to emphasize the need for developing strategies and tactics for effective response. All organizations should have current, effective, and practiced emergency response plans in place. The benefits of investment in mitigation, preparedness, and response programs may be realized in the first few minutes of an incident. This is the most critical period for response.
