Managing Golf Cart-Related Risks

Golf carts have become increasingly popular as a means of transportation. At hotel and resort properties, they are being used to deliver mail, interoffice supplies and equipment, and to transport groundskeepers, maintenance workers, and sales professionals who are escorting guests around the property.

The increased utilization of golf carts has led to a surge in the number of related accidents. The American Journal of Preventive Medicine reports injuries from being hit by or falling off of golf carts grew 132 percent from 1990 to 2006 affecting nearly 150,000 people. If your hotel or resort property uses golf carts, you need to consider your exposure to harm to guests, property, and employees that can be associated with their operation.
