Benedict Gilman, UK Marsh Business Analytics practice leader at Marsh Risk Consulting, stated that the granularity of data is also important: “If you don’t capture the right variables you can’t do any analytics, even if the underlying quality is good.”
Cleaning up data can be an expensive and arduous process but, according to Gilman, many firms have already started on the process: “Solvency II has forced many to make the initial investment in data quality, which has removed some of the barriers to investment in an a analytical process, but it has been driven by efforts to get compliant.”
